The Owlry was started in Rachel and David’s basement as a side hustle. Rachel loves candles and David is her number one supporter, so they started making candles for fun. The more they learned about candles, the more they learned that they are often one of the most toxic items in people’s homes. Full of chemicals and dyes, many of the mainstream candles people burn in their homes and offices can cause long and short term health effects.
So, they decided to make a cleaner candle.
Being avid outdoors people that truly care about the environment, Rachel and David also wanted to make candles with less environmental impact. They saw the waste produced from candles being burned then throwing the vessels away. So they made a more eco friendly candle.
They also wanted a candle that would stand out- smelled amazing, burned for a long time, and made people feel good. So they created The Owlry candle.
Our candles are made with clean, safe ingredients. When you return our vessels (yes, we reuse them to reduce waste!) You get 10% off your next candle purchase. Our lids are made out of bamboo, a fast growing renewable resource. We are famous for our wooden wicks that give off a slight crackle noise when burning and create the cozy atmosphere of a fireplace. Our scents, wax, jars, lids and more are all of the highest quality- creating a luxury candle you can feel good about.
Because we love it, every candle means something to us. We hand pour each candle and every candle is hand decorated with intention. Each lid is then branded by hand with a hot iron on an open fire, giving it our Owlry touch.
As the business has grown, the candle factory has moved to Madison Earth Care and we have taught some of the team the art of creating an Owlry candle, which we have really enjoyed. Our full candle collection can be found exclusively at Madison Earth Care in the gift shop. Our candle lines include:
The Classics Collection- Our candles that were too good to retire from the seasonal collection end up in our classics collection. All around favorites for sure!
The Gemstone Collection- Each candle has a Gemstone or crystal in it. When the candle burns, the heat releases the properties of the gemstone/ crystal to fill the room.
The Occasions Collection– new in 2025! Need the perfect gift? Our new line includes a candle for every occasion including Thank you, Happy Birthday, Congrats, and Thinking of you. Each candle is topped with dried flowers that signify the occasion according to the “language of flowers”.
The Seasonal Collection- we release a new fun selection of candles every spring/summer, fall, and holiday/winter. They are always changing and always exciting!
